Phases break a project into billable stages. They are the unit invoicing works from, which is what lets a single project mix fixed-fee and hourly work.
Adding a phase
- Open the project and go to its Phases tab.
- Click New Phase, or click RIBA Plan of Work to add a standard set of stages at once.
- Set its billing type and, for a fixed phase, the amount to bill for this stage.
| Phase billing type | How it invoices |
|---|---|
| Fixed | A set amount. You invoice a percentage of it as the phase progresses. |
| Hourly | Billed from the time logged against it, at the project's rate card. |
| Non-billable | Tracked but never invoiced. Time logged here is forced non-billable. |
Each phase carries its own progress percentage and its own amount to bill, so a project can have some phases complete and invoiced while others are still open.
